timeless images

As a starting point, most of the time Huisman uses old photographs, chosen for their clarity and spatial qualities. During the working process (which takes month, sometimes even years) he puts numerous layers of half-transparent paint on the canvas, so as to deconstruct and reconstruct the image into paint, with its own rhythm and brilliance. The photographical motive becomes a painting with its own clarity and space. Huisman is not interested in creating a nostalgic image as such; he wants to question the meaning of memories, the meaning of the past. Thus he revives the memories of light that are stored in his head since his childhood, and turn them into timeless images.
